When illness, caregiving, grief or loss touches your relationship

A serious illness or a major loss can change the way people speak, connect and care for one another. Partners and families may be trying to support each other while also managing fear, exhaustion, uncertainty or grief. You do not have to find the words alone.

Couples therapy and group support, for people carrying the same thing

Couples therapy

Couples therapy offers partners a space to talk about the changes illness, caregiving, grief or loss has brought into their relationship. Sessions may help you understand each other’s needs, navigate difficult conversations, and find ways to stay connected through a demanding time.

You do not need to be married or at a breaking point to reach out. You can inquire together to learn whether this support may be a fit.

Group support

Group therapy can bring together people facing some of the same questions: How do I care for someone I love without losing myself? How do we talk about what is happening? Where can I bring the feelings I’m carrying?

Groups are organised around shared experiences and needs. Group enrolment details are provided after you inquire and a group is confirmed.

Who may inquire

Couples, partners, family members or caregivers navigating illness, caregiving, grief or loss may write to ask about fit.

Group eligibility, age range, and whether a group is currently forming are discussed before anyone enrols.

Begin with a consultation

If you’re wondering whether couples therapy or a group may be right for you, begin with a first consultation — the same as an individual one. We’ll talk through availability, fees, format and eligibility, and whether the service fits what you’re looking for.

When you book, add a note saying whether you are asking about couples therapy or group support, and a little about what brings you here. Please don’t include urgent or highly sensitive details.

In an emergency, or if you are in danger, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis line rather than this page.

You’re carrying this together. You don’t have to navigate it without support.

Illness, caregiving, grief and loss can affect everyone in a relationship or family differently. If you and your partner — or others who share this experience — would like a space to talk, listen and feel less alone, you’re invited to inquire about couples therapy or group support.
